3 Tips for Writers #amwriting

1) Develop a daily writing habit. It doesn't matter if you write only 100 words a day or 3000. But you should sit down at your computer every day and work on your story/stories. This will train your brain to the task and create the discipline you need to write fiction.

2) Commit to finishing things.Neil Gaiman: “Writer advice... Write. Finish things. Go for walks. Read a lot & outside your comfort zone. Stay interested. Daydream. Write.”

While all of this is good advice, I particularly want you to note the "finish things" portion of this advice. It is very tempting to get distracted by the next shiny idea that comes along when we are in the middle of project. It happens to us all. But it is very important that you don't jump ship every time, or you will find that you are often swimming in the ocean without really getting anywhere.

I recommend that you create an outline for every project early on (when you are still excited and invested in the project) and when the days get hard or the shiny idea arrives, stick to your outline. Imagine your best Hagrid from Harry Potter voice: Stick to your outline, Harry. Stick to your outline.
Rely on your earlier, more energetic self to carry you through to the end.
3) Read.In order to be a good writer, you MUST be reading. Read books in your genre for inspiration. Read books outside it for fresh perspectives and maybe learn some tricks! Almost any writer will tell you that reading is paramount to writing and you can't have one without the other. But I like how Stephen King has put it, "If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time and tools it takes to write."

Wishing you a productive writing week,
Kory

She is only good at one thing --killing #Tuesdaybookblog

There's still time to preorder my latest Lou Thorne Thriller, Under the Bones. Sequel to the supernatural thriller, Shadows in the Water.

Louie Thorne is good at only one thing. Killing. She knows peace only when she kills and this relentless thirst drives her to hunt the worst crime lords in the world. But when her cancer-stricken aunt makes a dying wish, Louie is torn between her own dark nature and a promise made to the only family she has left.

Enter Konstantine, bastard son of the crime lord who killed Louie's family, and now the leader of the Ravengers—a ruthless crime faction ruling from Florence's underworld. He didn't rise to power without making enemies and now one of those enemies has made Konstantine the most hunted man alive. Konstantine's only hope of surviving the international chase is to trust the woman who almost killed him.

Will Louie embrace her thirst and protect her old enemy, Konstantine? Or are the bonds of blood stronger than revenge...

Learn more about Under the Bones, a  "twisting, fast-paced tale"  here.

A New Read for Vampire Fans #Fridayreads

Summary
With her home and heart in ruins, Jenna is none too keen on the idea of helping the Duke of House Lilith—the man she holds responsible for everything wrong in her life. But when the Vampiric High Council summons Ursula, Duchess of House Lilith and Jenna’s unsuspecting grandsire, to a trial where she's to stand accused of murdering her sire and abandoning her depraved scions, the duke is eager to strike a deal. If Jenna helps him protect Ursula, he will keep her darkest secret and put in a good word with the adoptive sire the queen assigns to her. Oh, and return her guns—provided she doesn’t use them on him.

Another great installment. If you've read and enjoyed the first four books in this series, you will enjoy this installment as well. I'm loving the progression of Jenna's story and can't wait to see what develops with the duke. The vampire royal family intrigue is also a lot of fun. Enjoy!

The New Sarah J. Maas book is here! #Tuesdaybookblog

Happy Book Birthday, SJM!

I know you're waiting for your baby to arrive, and that's pretty special, but I'm just so excited for this book!
ACOTAR fans will understand what I mean!
Narrated by Feyre and Rhysand, this bridges the events in A Court of Wings and Ruin and the upcoming novels in the series.
Feyre, Rhys, and their close-knit circle of friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can't keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated--scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.
